What to save when you buy a new appliance

Keep the receipt, warranty terms, model and serial number, and delivery or installation records together with this practical appliance checklist.

Last updated: September 23, 2026

Before the packaging goes away, spend a few minutes saving the information that would be awkward to find later. A clear record is useful when you need to identify a part, ask about a repair, or find the purchase paperwork.

The receipt or invoice

Save a readable copy showing the retailer, item, purchase date, and amount paid. If the retailer provides a final invoice after delivery, save that too. An order confirmation can be useful, but check whether it contains all the details you need.

The model and serial number

Photograph the appliance's identification label before installation makes it difficult to reach. Make sure both numbers are legible. Store the photo or record the details with the purchase. Do not rely only on the product name from the store: similar-looking appliances can have different model numbers.

The warranty document

Keep the terms supplied for your model and market, including the coverage period, exclusions, and contact instructions. Check what date coverage starts from. If registration is requested, follow the manufacturer's instructions and keep its confirmation; do not assume that registration alone establishes every condition of coverage.

Delivery and installation records

Save relevant delivery confirmations and installation invoices. If you notice damage, document it and contact the retailer promptly using its instructions. Keep any correspondence with the purchase records so you do not have to reconstruct the conversation later.

The manual and support contact

Keep the model-specific manual or an official link to it somewhere easy to find. Use the manufacturer's instructions for operation, maintenance, and safety. When you need help, look up the official support channel rather than trusting an unsolicited message about your appliance.

Record dates without guessing

Enter the purchase date and the warranty expiration date after checking your documents. If a seller's return deadline also matters, keep it as a separate calendar entry. Different terms may apply to accessories, parts, or an additional service plan.

Give the documents one home

In Holdr, start a purchase record, attach the receipt and warranty documents, and review the saved dates. Warranty reminders can help you keep the entered expiration date in view when notifications are enabled. Holdr does not determine warranty eligibility or replace the manufacturer's terms.
